ADDRESSING THE ROOT CAUSE
Our Trauma-Informed Addiction Treatment Approach
Sobriety Centers of New Hampshire recognizes that the connection between substance misuse and trauma is undeniable. We are also proud to be the first residential inpatient and outpatient substance misuse program in New Hampshire to incorporate a trauma-informed approach. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) defines this as “A program, organization, or system that is trauma-informed:
- Realizes the widespread impact of trauma and understands potential paths for recovery from addiction;
- Recognizes the signs and symptoms of trauma in clients, families, staff, and others involved with the system;
- Responds by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures, and practices;
- Seeks to actively resist re-traumatization.¹
EMPOWERMENT
Voice & Choice in Your Addiction Treatment Approach
Throughout the organization and among the clients served, individuals’ strengths are recognized, built on, and validated, and new skills are developed as necessary. Through its Antrim House Inpatient Addiction Treatment Center and the Lakes Addiction Treatment Center facilities in New Hampshire, Sobriety Center of New Hampshire aims to strengthen the staffs’, clients’, and family members’ experience of choice, while recognizing that every person’s addiction recovery experience is unique and requires an individualized approach. This includes a belief in resilience and in the ability of individuals, organizations, and communities to heal and promote recovery from trauma. This builds on what clients, staff, and communities have to offer rather than responding to perceived deficits.
